Realistic Christmas Cutting Strips For Kids – Free Printable

Montessori inspired Christmas Cutting Strips. These realistic Christmas cutting strips are a fun way to practice fine motor skills with toddlers and preschoolers. Free Printable.

My daughter has an obsession with cutting.

She asks for scissors and cuts everything that gets on her way. I have found myself collecting small pieces of Wrapping paper, newspapers and magazines everywhere around the house.

To indulge her obsession for cutting (and my obsession with Christmas themed activities) I made these realistic Christmas cutting strips.

5 Minute Preparation Cutting Practice For Kids

Preparing this activity couldn’t be easier. Toddlers and preschoolers will love practicing how to properly grasp scissors with these strips.

To prepare this activity you’ll only need:

  • Free Christmas Cutting Strips Printable (You can download it at the end of this post)
  • Photo paper (I really recommend using photo paper as it is thicker than normal printing paper and much easier for little hands to hold)
  • Scissors (I love these ones because they are safe, easy to handle and very good for cutting thick paper)

How to prepare this Christmas themed cutting activity

Download and print the cutting strips. Then cut the strips. You can either use them directly with your child or surprise your child by putting them together with scissors on a tray in your shelves.

That’s it! It couldn’t be easier, right?

3 Skills Kids Can Practice With Cutting Strips

  1. These cutting strips are perfect for teaching young children how to properly hold scissors. When working with scissors put a lot of emphasis on how to use them safely (I love all the tips and tricks sugar aunts blog has on scissor skills and highly recommend you to take a look at it)
  2. These Montessori inspired cutting strips are made with real photos making them perfect for working on language development. You can talk with your kid about the typical Christmas objects as they cut the strips. Describe what you are seeing in the photos and tell them a little bit about Christmas.
  3. Cutting strengthens little hand muscles and helps children learn to use the thumb, forefinger, and middle finger. Both of which are necessary to develop pincer grasp and learn to write.
